Rashtriya Ekta Diwas: Strengthening The Fabric Of Our Nation
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsapp

As we observe Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, we are reminded that national unity is a continuous responsibility. The “Iron Man of India” did not just geographically unite 560 princely states; he forged the very soul of our nation, which is a diverse yet indivisible India. In today’s complex global landscape, where divisive forces constantly test social cohesion, Sardar Patel’s legacy becomes increasingly relevant. This year’s celebrations, from the grand parade at Ekta Nagar featuring indigenous dog squads to the nationwide Run for Unity and youth marches, represent a living commitment to the ideals that bind us together. The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, born from this occasion a decade ago, has successfully transformed abstract unity into tangible cultural exchanges, linguistic appreciation, and interpersonal connections between different states. What makes this anniversary particularly significant is its emphasis on youth engagement. Through student exchanges, digital platforms, and leadership programmes, young Indians are learning that patriotism lies in celebrating diversity rather than imposing uniformity. The participation of women officers leading ceremonial guards and the inclusion of specially-abled citizens in marathons demonstrate that true unity embraces every segment of society. However, beyond the celebrations lies a deeper challenge: to translate this annual enthusiasm into daily practice. Unity must manifest in our workplaces, educational institutions, and communities through mutual respect and inclusive attitudes. The true test of our national integration lies not in grand parades but in everyday actions and how we treat our neighbours, respect regional differences, and uphold constitutional values in our conduct. Let us pledge to strengthen the legacy of Sardar Patel, not just with marches and pledges, but through conscious efforts to bridge divides, reject prejudice, and build a nation where every citizen feels equally valued and represented.  The Statue of Unity stands as a constant reminder that our strength lies in our togetherness. In honouring Sardar Patel’s vision, we commit to preserving the integrity he fought to achieve, ensuring that India remains united in its beautiful diversity for generations to come.
