Sopore, Nov 21: Industrial Estate Sopore in north Kashmir on Friday saw a major leadership shift after unit holders elected Junaid Mehraj Janwari as the new president, ending more than 25 years of continuous control by the previous head.

Majority of the Estate Unit holders gathered at the oath ceremony and endorsed Janwari’s election. They said the estate needs a more active leadership structure that can address issues faced by industries in Sopore.

Meanwhile, former president Javaid Bhat questioned the legality of the process. He said the move was unconstitutional and added that he had already announced his resignation a day earlier.

However, he asked unit holders to extend support to the newly elected president for the sake of the estate.

Unit holders said they expect the former president to work with the new leadership for the stability of the estate.

The newly elected President, Junaid, while speaking to reporters said he will work for transparent functioning and quicker decision making in the estate.

He said the association is entirely out of politics and will focus only on industrial issues, Janwari, however, asked all unit holders for full support.

The newly elect thanked the former president for his long tenure and said the estate can move forward only through collective effort—(KNO)
