Party Chief Spokesperson urges LG to clear reservation file, calls for full metering

Srinagar, Dec 05: The National Conference (NC) on Friday paid glowing tributes to its founder and towering leader, late “Sher-e-Kashmir” Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, on his 120th birth anniversary, recalling his unmatched contribution towards shaping Jammu and Kashmir’s political and social landscape.

Leaders and party workers assembled at Naseem Bagh, where floral tributes were offered amid emotional recollections and renewed pledges to carry forward Sheikh Abdullah’s mission of peace, dignity and welfare.

Parties, senior leaders, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), paid tributes. NC leader and MLA Zadibal constituency, Tanvir Sadiq, said Sher-e-Kashmir’s service to Kashmir is unforgettable, and his work for education, healthcare and social upliftment continues to inspire generations.

“He remains in people’s hearts, and on his birth anniversary, we offer Fatiha and inaugurate the Bab-ul-Salam and Bab-ul-Noor gates at Dargah,” Sadiq said.

The MLA urged the Lieutenant Governor to take an early decision on the pending reservation file, saying the NC had already completed all formal steps when in government. “Whatever we were supposed to do as the government or as a political party, we did that. Now, we expect the LG to decide on the file that has been submitted,” he said.

He called for complete metering of electricity consumption across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure transparency and enable the government to provide relief to households. “We want full metering so that the government can provide 200 units of electricity free to the people,” he added.

The Health and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo termed Sheikh Abdullah’s contribution as “immeasurable”. “He built institutions like SKIMS, saved countless lives and worked with deep compassion for his people. His vision lives in every heart,” she said.

Speaker Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather described “Sher-e-Kashmir” as “the tallest leader of the state who sacrificed his life for the welfare of people,” adding that his contribution towards upliftment and empowerment will be remembered forever.

Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Ruhullah, in a post on X, wrote: “Today, as we commemorate the 120th birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah sb, we are reminded not only of his towering political stature but also of his unwavering commitment to justice, dignity, and the rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.”

He wrote: “Sheikh Sahib and his colleagues symbolised political courage, resilience, and the collective aspirations of our people. Sheikh Abdullah sahab and devoted his life to challenging oppression and dismantling structures of exploitation. It is our responsibility to uphold these values and carry forward the mission he and his colleagues dedicated their lives to. Let this day renew our commitment to unity, justice, and democratic rights.”

Notably, the event witnessed wide participation from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Dr Farooq Abdullah, CM’s sons Zahir and Zamir Abdullah, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and several senior leaders and MLAs, who reaffirmed their commitment to Sheikh Abdullah’s vision of equality and people’s empowerment.
