Srinagar, Dec 12: The Union Government has not sanctioned any new government hospitals for Jammu and Kashmir in the last five years, Health and Family Welfare informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

It also said that Ladakh has received over Rs 14.39 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM) for health infrastructure development during 2025–26, the Ministry of

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ministry informed that Jammu & Kashmir received ‘zero allocation under NHM’s building infrastructure component for both 2024–25 and 2025–26’.

Ladakh was approved Rs 1,274.33 lakh in 2024–25 and Rs 1,439.05 lakh in 2025–26 for strengthening health infrastructure.

It also said that setting up new hospitals is primarily the responsibility of States and Union Territories, though the Centre supports them under schemes such as NHM, PM-ABHIM, ECRP-II, PMSSY and the 15th Finance Commission grants.

The Ministry noted that both J&K and Ladakh UTs can seek central assistance based on proposals submitted through their annual Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).

The Centre also reiterated that substantial investment continues nationwide through schemes including PM-ABHIM’s Critical Care Blocks and PMSSY upgrades. (KNO)
