Pahalgam, Dec 23: A first spell of snowfall, though limited to just a few inches, transformed the picturesque Aru Valley in Pahalgam into a breathtaking winter wonderland, drawing smiles, excitement and renewed enthusiasm among tourists visiting the famed destination, nestled in Himalayas, in South Kashmir.

As gentle snowflakes blanketed meadows, rooftops and pine-covered slopes, the entire valley took on a pristine white look, offering visitors a postcard-perfect setting. The snowfall, the first one of the season in the area, was enough to change the landscape dramatically without causing disruption to road connectivity or daily activities, making it ideal for tourists.

Visitors, including families and adventure enthusiasts, were seen clicking photographs, throwing snowballs and simply soaking in the serene beauty of the valley. Many said that even a light snowfall had fulfilled their long-cherished dream of witnessing Kashmir’s winter charm.

“This is our first visit to Kashmir, and seeing Aru Valley covered in snow feels magical,” said Rakesh Kumar, a tourist from Delhi. “Even though the snowfall is just a few inches, it has completely changed the atmosphere. It feels like we are walking inside a movie scene.”

Another tourist, Neha Sharma from Mumbai, shared similar views. “We were not expecting snowfall during our stay, so this came as a pleasant surprise. The weather is cold but comfortable, and the views are absolutely stunning. This light snowfall is perfect for enjoying without any inconvenience,” she said.

Local hoteliers and tour operators also welcomed the snowfall, saying it has added to the charm of the season. “Snowfall, even in small amounts, creates excitement among visitors. We have seen an increase in tourist movement in Aru after the snowfall,” said a local hotel owner. “People prefer such light snowfall as it allows them to explore the area freely.”

Children appeared particularly thrilled, with many playing in the snow under the watchful eyes of their parents. “My kids have never seen snow before. They are extremely happy and don’t want to leave the place,” said a tourist from Gujarat.

Meanwhile, locals said such snowfall is normal for this time of the year and is beneficial for the region, especially for tourism and water resources. “This snowfall is good for the valley. It refreshes the environment and enhances the beauty of Aru, which attracts tourists,” a local resident said.

Despite the drop in temperatures, authorities said roads leading to Aru Valley remain open and traffic is moving smoothly. Officials advised tourists to follow safety guidelines and dress warmly as temperatures are expected to dip further in the coming days.

With its snow-draped landscapes, calm surroundings and cheerful visitors, Aru Valley once again proved why it remains one of Kashmir’s most loved winter destinations, even when the snowfall is just a few inches—(KNO)
