Baramulla, Dec 25: Jammu & Kashmir Police closed the year 2025 with an unprecedented push on community policing, using public darbars, Thana Diwas and PCPG (Police Community Partnership Group) meetings to reach thousands of residents across north Kashmir districts.
The DIG’s media cell shared the year-end figures.
The North Kashmir Range rolled out over 1,100 outreach programmes in 2025, hearing nearly 2.3 lakh voices through interactions that focused on grievance redressal, awareness on new criminal laws and a united fight against drugs, according to the figures.
The year’s thrust was on “policing beyond enforcement”, a police spokesperson said.
He said regular public darbars by senior officers, including IGP Kashmir, DIG North Kashmir Range and district SSPs, provided walk‑in platforms where citizens flagged complaints about investigations, drug menace, neighbourhood disputes and everyday policing services.
The spokesperson described the 2025 effort as a turning point in rebuilding trust in a border and conflict‑affected belt, saying that sustained face‑to‑face engagement has narrowed communication gaps and encouraged residents to share actionable inputs against drug peddlers, fraudsters and other offenders.
“Community cooperation is essential for tackling crime, drug abuse and other social evils,” the spokesperson said. “Proactive engagement helps in early identification of problems and prevents youth from drifting towards violence and radicalisation.”—(KNO)
