Reviews anti-terror ops, security measures for R Day; likely to visit border areas today

Jammu, Jan 14: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, who arrived here today on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, chaired a high-level security meeting in Jammu to review the ongoing anti-terror operations among other security aspects, sources said.

Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Govind Mohan arrived in Jammu today afternoon and straightaway drove to the Convention Centre where he chaired a high-level security meeting.

This comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, directing security agencies to continue anti-terror operations in a mission mode.

Govind Mohan, according to sources, reviewed the security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, assess the ongoing anti-terror operations and frequent drone intrusions on the International Border and the Line of Control.

He was accompanied by Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and other top officials from New Delhi. The meeting was also attended by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, CRPF chief G P Singh and Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, other army, police, civil and intelligence officers.

Sources said that he also reviewed the security situation along the borders where Pakistan has been trying to push infiltrators and arms through drones over the past few weeks.

They said that the Home Secretary also reviewed the prevailing security situation across Jammu and Kashmir, with focus on the ongoing anti-terror operations in mountainous and forested areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur and Udhampur districts.

Pertinently, security forces have been carrying out sustained operations to track and neutralise terrorists in the forested areas of these districts over the past few weeks.

“He also reviewed the strengthening of the anti-infiltration grid and enhancing coordination among various security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir,” sources added.

Sources also said that the Union Home Secretary along with the Intelligence Bureau chief and other officers are likely to visit the border areas on Thursday. (KNO)
