BARAMULLA, JANUARY 21: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, Wednesday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) at Baramulla to review the status of road safety measures and enforcement across the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Traffic gave a comprehensive briefing to the chair on various initiatives undertaken to strengthen road safety, including enforcement drives, challans issued, and fines collected to curb traffic violations.
The DC, as per an official statement, held detailed deliberations with the concerned departments and emphasized the need for a coordinated, proactive approach to reduce road accidents and ensure safer commuting for the public.
Highlighting the importance of preventive infrastructure, the DC directed that proper road signage and reflectors be installed on the Sangrama–Delina stretch of NH-01 to facilitate smooth and safe movement of commuters, especially during night hours and adverse weather conditions.
Minga Sherpa instructed the concerned authorities to submit Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the installation of crash barriers, road dividers, and reflective stickers carrying emergency contact numbers on vehicles.
Meanwhile, the DC directed for strict enforcement of Supreme Court guidelines for school buses, including the mandatory availability of safety kits, fire extinguishers, and first-aid boxes, and adherence to other prescribed norms.
Taking a firm stand against drug-related offences, the DC also directed that driving licences be suspended in cases involving NDPS violations, as per rules. He also called for intensified checking and awareness to curb the practice of minor driving two wheelers.
The DC stressed accountability and instructed all concerned officers to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) by 27th of this month, reflecting compliance with the directions issued during the meeting.
