Discusses J&K Assembly Session, security, development

New Delhi, Jan 22: Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and held a detailed discussion on the upcoming Assembly session, the prevailing political scenario, the security situation, and developmental priorities of Jammu & Kashmir.

During the meeting, LoP Sharma according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) apprised HM Shah of the ground-level political dynamics in J&K and conveyed the expectations and aspirations of the people from the forthcoming Assembly session.

He emphasized the need for meaningful and constructive deliberations aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring effective governance, and promoting people-centric policymaking in the Union Territory.

The security scenario in J&K was discussed at length, with a focus on maintaining peace, countering terrorism, safeguarding civilian lives, and ensuring the safety and morale of security forces.

On the occasion, Sharma lauded the sustained efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and security agencies for their decisive role in improving the overall security environment and restoring normalcy across the Jammu & Kashmir.

The discussions also covered key developmental issues, including infrastructure development, employment generation, youth empowerment, revival of tourism, healthcare, education, and the timely implementation of central welfare schemes.

LoP Sharma stressed the need to fast-track development projects to ensure balanced and inclusive growth across both Jammu and Kashmir regions, with special attention to far-flung, border, and underserved areas.

According to the statement issued to KNO, Home Minister Amit Shah gave a patient hearing and reiterated the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to peace, development, and inclusive progress in Jammu & Kashmir.

“He assured that the issues raised would be examined carefully and that necessary steps would be taken to further strengthen security, governance, and development in the Union Territory,” it reads.

The meeting reaffirmed the BJP leadership’s resolve to work in close coordination with the Central Government to ensure a stable, secure, and prosperous Jammu & Kashmir, in line with the aspirations of its people. (KNO)
