NC Govt delivering as promised: Choudhary

Pulwama Jan 28: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday asserted that the National Conference-led government is “on the ground” and actively responding to public issues, fulfilling the commitments made to people before the elections.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Pulwama and Shopian, Choudhary said the recent spell of snowfall and rain, though much needed, had created temporary difficulties in some areas.

“We were eagerly waiting for snow and rains, and they have finally arrived. Yes, there were some problems, but our government is on the ground to address every issue,” he said.

The Deputy CM informed that most of the roads across the two districts have been cleared, while the remaining stretches are being taken up on priority. “Whatever is pending will be cleared at the earliest so that people do not face inconvenience at any cost,” he assured.

He acknowledged that certain roads in Shopian are yet to be cleared, citing difficult terrain as a major hurdle. “In some areas, machines are unable to reach due to steep slopes and other technical issues, but our teams are working continuously to overcome these challenges,” Choudhary said.

Praising the efforts of the administration, he said all concerned departments worked tirelessly to restore essential services. However, he issued a warning against negligence. “We do not want to take action against anyone, but if someone fails to perform their duties properly or works under the influence of others, the government will be compelled to act,” he cautioned.

Taking a swipe at previous regimes, the Deputy Chief Minister blamed the BJP and PDP for the delay in completion of several infrastructure projects. “Many roads and bridges have remained incomplete for years. Neither did they complete pending projects, nor did they strengthen infrastructure. Instead, they snatched our special status and statehood,” he alleged.

Choudhary said that when the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah demitted office in 2014, Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed full statehood and special status. “When he returned to power after nearly a decade, J&K had been reduced to a Union Territory. Both BJP and PDP are responsible for this,” he said.

Responding to the demand for a separate mechanical division for Shopian, Choudhary said the government would examine the issue. “We will look into the demand and take appropriate steps, keeping in view the welfare of the people,” he assured—(KNO)
