Srinagar, Feb 18: Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting fraternity witnessed a landmark moment on Wednesday as the J&K cricket team scripted history by reaching the final of the prestigious Ranji Trophy for the first time.

The achievement drew widespread applause from political leaders, legislators, and sports lovers across the Union Territory.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a message shared on X, lauded the team’s exceptional performance and said the entire region was proud of the players’ feat.

“Congratulations to the J&K cricket team on their magnificent victory in the Ranji Trophy semi-final! You have etched a new golden chapter in the sporting history of J&K. The entire UT is proud of your extraordinary performance. May you continue this winning momentum and bring glory to J&K,” he said, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also praised the team, saying the achievement reflected the collective effort of players and support staff.

“This success belongs to the entire team and their support staff. I congratulate the players and also, on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, on this historic accomplishment,” he said.

He expressed optimism that this milestone would inspire more cricketers from the region to excel at the highest level.

“The day is not far when players from Jammu and Kashmir will represent the country and make significant contributions to Indian cricket,” the Chief Minister added.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also congratulated the team in an emotional message on X, praising their courage and determination.

“Heartfelt congratulations to the J&K Cricket Team on their magnificent victory in the Ranji Trophy semi-final. History created! With grit, courage, and unbreakable belief, you’ve written a golden chapter in J&K’s sporting journey. May Allah Talah bless you with even greater success ahead.”

Meanwhile, Sajad Lone, president of the People’s Conference, along with spokespersons of the National Conference, extended their congratulations, calling the feat a proud moment for the entire region.

In Jammu, the Legislative Assembly also joined in celebrating the achievement. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, along with several legislators, congratulated the players for creating history in the 2026 season of the tournament.

The Speaker lauded the dedication, discipline, and fighting spirit of the players, coaching staff, and support team, stating that the triumph has filled Jammu and Kashmir with immense pride.

“This historic achievement has inspired aspiring cricketers across the Union Territory to pursue excellence in sports. The team’s remarkable performance has already etched their names in the annals of J&K’s sporting history,” he said.
