MeT forecasts intermittent rain spells

Weather to remain dry from April 13 onwards

Srinagar, Apr 09: The Meteorological Department on Wednesday forecast light rain and thundershowers at scattered places in Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, with a gradual rise in day temperatures expected during the coming week.

An official of the MeT Centre Srinagar told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that brief spells of light rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered locations on April 9–10, with the possibility of hailstorms at isolated places during the afternoon hours.

“The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy on April 11–12, with brief spells of light rain at a few places towards evening. Conditions are likely to remain generally dry on April 13–14, followed by cloudy skies and light rain at isolated places on April 15–16. The department has forecast dry weather again from April 17 to 20,” he added.

Farmers have been advised to resume agricultural operations, while a gradual rise of 4–6 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is expected over the next six days.

Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 17.1°C, 1.7 degrees below normal, and a minimum of 7.0°C, slightly above normal. Qazigund recorded 16.2°C maximum and 5.6°C minimum, while Pahalgam registered 11.8°C and 3.0°C respectively.

Kupwara recorded a high of 16.4°C and a low of 4.0°C, while Kokernag settled at 14.6°C maximum and 4.8°C minimum. Gulmarg, the coldest place in the Valley, recorded a maximum of 5.5°C and a minimum of minus 2.5°C.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 25.5°C, 4.9 degrees below normal, and a minimum of 12.2°C. Banihal registered 16.6°C and 6.6°C, Batote 16.0°C and 5.4°C, while Katra recorded 23.0°C maximum and 10.7°C minimum.

Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 15.5°C and a minimum of 3.4°C, the MeT office said. (KNO)
