KULGAM, FEBRUARY 21:  As part of the ongoing field preparedness for Swachh Survekshan 2025–26, the Municipal Committee (MC) Frisal, falling under the jurisdiction of Kulgam Municipal Council, Saturday carried out an extensive Community Awareness Programme.

The initiative, held in collaboration with the IEC Team, was designed to eliminate open defecation and urination while promoting a permanent shift in public hygiene habits under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.

The outreach, as per an official statement, effort involved a series of structured community meetings and door-to-door visits aimed at reaching every household and business in the town. A significant focus was placed on commercial establishments and religious sites, where the IEC Team engaged directly with traders and Masjid Imams. These religious and community leaders played a vital role in the drive, helping to sensitize the public on the importance of maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of places of worship and marketplaces alike.

By involving diverse stakeholders, including residents and local shopkeepers, the Municipal Committee Frisal is working to ensure that the town’s ODF (Open Defecation Free) status is sustained through collective action. The program highlighted the critical link between responsible public behaviour and the overall health of the community. The intensive mobilization is a key component of the current monthly action plan, focused on closing service gaps and ensuring that sanitation infrastructure is utilized effectively.

Through these efforts, the Municipal Committee Frisal and the Kulgam Municipal Council remain committed to delivering a clean, healthy, and dignified environment for all residents ahead of the national assessment.
