Day temps soar across J&K, remain above normal

Srinagar, Feb 27: Day temperatures continued to remain above normal across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with several stations recording departures of up to nine degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 21.0 degrees Celsius, which was nine degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 1.5 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average.

Qazigund registered a high of 20.8 degrees Celsius, 9.8 degrees above normal, and a low of 1.0 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 16.2 degrees Celsius, 7.7 degrees above normal, while the minimum dipped to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara recorded a high of 20.1 degrees Celsius, 8.7 degrees above normal, and a low of 0.4 degrees Celsius. Kokernag registered a maximum of 18.8 degrees Celsius, nine degrees above normal, with the minimum at 3.6 degrees Celsius.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 9.7 degrees Celsius, 7.3 degrees above normal, and a minimum of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 26.3 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees above normal, and a minimum of 12.9 degrees Celsius. Banihal registered a high of 20.8 degrees Celsius, 7.4 degrees above normal, while Batote recorded 20.4 degrees Celsius, 7.2 degrees above normal.

Katra recorded a maximum of 26.0 degrees Celsius, 5.1 degrees above normal, and Bhadarwah registered 20.9 degrees Celsius, 6.5 degrees above normal.

There was no significant rainfall reported across the Union Territory during the past 24 hours, except for a trace recorded at Bhadarwah. Relative humidity levels remained moderate across most stations.

The MeT department has forecast mainly dry weather over the next few days. (KNO)
