DC Srinagar flags off free HPV vaccination for adolescent girls

Srinagar, Feb 28: Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Saturday launched Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for girls aged 14-15 Years as a part of nationwide campaign to prevent incidences of cervical cancer among young women here at UPHC Batamaloo.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tahir Sajad; District Health Officer, Dr Rubeena; Zonal Medical Officer, Batmaloo, Dr Sameena; ZMO SR Gunj, Dr Shafqat; Medical Superintendent Government Gousia Hospital, Dr Arshid, other senior health functionaries and other concerned were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the launch event, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of early vaccination in protecting adolescent girls against HPV infections, which are a leading cause of cervical cancer. He stated that cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable yet prevalent cancers affecting women, and that timely immunization can significantly reduce long-term health risks.

 

Emphasizing coordinated efforts, the DC urged parents, guardians, school authorities and healthcare workers to ensure maximum participation and coverage across the district. He directed health officials to meticulously follow the laid-down guidelines and adopt a systematic approach to identify and take awareness to  all eligible girls in the target age group, ensuring effective and time-bound implementation of the campaign.

 

During the launch event, the DC was informed that about 13,700 HPV vaccine doses have been arranged for Srinagar district. They also apprised the DC of the arrangements regarding vaccine storage, logistics and cold chain management to ensure smooth implementation of the campaign.
