Srinagar, Mar 06: The blooming of almond trees across Kashmir Valley has signalled the arrival of spring, with delicate pink and white blossoms transforming several parts of the region into beautiful landscapes.
Gardens and parks known for their almond trees are seeing a steady influx of visitors, as tourists and locals gather to witness the seasonal spectacle after the long winter months.
The early spring bloom, which typically begins in the first week of March, is considered one of the first natural indicators of the changing season in Kashmir.
Riya Sharma, a tourist visiting Srinagar said, “I had seen pictures of almond blossoms earlier, but witnessing them in person is truly beautiful. The entire garden looks like it has turned pink.”
Visitors were seen strolling through blooming gardens, taking photographs and enjoying the weather as the Valley gradually transitions from winter to spring.
Locals said the blooming season not only enhances the Valley’s natural charm but also attracts tourists eager to witness the first colours of spring.
“After months of winter, the almond blossoms bring life back to the Valley. People wait for this time every year,” said Ghulam Ahmad.
Meanwhile, with spring setting in, preparations are underway for the opening of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, which officials earlier said is likely to open around mid-March, subject to favourable weather.
The garden, located at the foothills of the Zabarwan range overlooking Dal Lake, is expected to feature nearly 1.8 million tulips of around 70 to 75 varieties this season, offering visitors another major attraction in the coming weeks.
Last year, the garden witnessed a record footfall of more than 8.5 lakh visitors during its month-long opening, highlighting the growing interest of tourists in Kashmir’s spring bloom.
