Srinagar, Mar 16: Four major roads connecting different parts of Jammu and Kashmir were closed on Sunday following a fresh snowfall in the higher reaches, officials said.

Officials said that vehicular movement was suspended on the Mughal Road following the fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali and Dubijan in the Pir Panjal range.

Officials also said that the traffic movement was also halted on the Bandipora–Gurez Road following the fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass.

The Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumari (SSG) road also remained closed due to fresh snowfall along the Zoji La axis.

It also said that the fresh snowfall also led to temporary closure of Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road.

Officials said traffic movement on these roads will be restored only after weather conditions improve and snow clearance operations are completed.

The official however clarified that the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway remained open for vehicular movement throughout the day.

In the meantime, traffic police have issued an advisory for commuters travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway—urging passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators to prefer daytime to travel.

According to the advisory, the travellers have been advised to avoid night travel due to the possibility of shooting stones and landslides along the route, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

“For tomorrow, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs (passenger vehicles), HPVs, private cars and HMVs (goods carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the highway,” the advisory reads.

It also said that the movement of vehicles will be permitted from both directions on the highway, including from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
