‘LG Sahab proved justice can arrive’

Srinagar, Mar 15: Decades of grief, uncertainty and waiting came to an emotional end today for Raja Begum, an elderly woman from North Kashmir’s Kupwara District, whose family members were killed in terrorist violence years ago.

Standing at Lok Bhavan Auditorium, she received an appointment letter handed over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a gesture she described as “long-awaited justice and recognition.”

“We survived while our loved ones were taken from us,” she said, while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “For years, nobody asked about our suffering. We lived with fear, loss and unanswered questions. Today, for the first time, we feel seen,” the woman added.

Reflecting on the significance of the appointment letter, she added, it is not just a job. It is an acknowledgment of decades of pain. It feels like our grief matters, our family’s sacrifice is remembered and our voice is heard.

“We never thought anyone would recognize us after so many years,” she said, adding “LG Sahab has shown that even after decades, justice can arrive. We welcome it with open hearts.”

“The ceremony is a reminder that even after years of waiting, survivors of terrorism and their families can reclaim dignity, hope and justice,” she added. (KNO)
