Srinagar, Mar 19: Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has announced that the crescent was not sighted anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday and Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday.

The announcement ended suspense across the Valley following Maghrib prayers.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he said no credible reports of moon sighting were received by the official moon-sighting committee. “With the crescent not sighted this evening, Edi-Ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday,” the Grand Mufti said.

The committee, which includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed the decision after reviewing inputs from various districts. Muslims across J&K will celebrate Eid on Saturday. (KNO)
