Srinagar, Mar 31: The Jammu & Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 639 Industrial Units have been established in the Union Territory during the last two financial years.

Replying to an unstarred question by MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, the Industries & Commerce Department said that 234 units were set up in 2023–24 and 405 units in 2024–25, taking the total to 639 units.

The government said the success of these industrial units can be gauged from the fact that an investment of Rs 7,534.96 crore has been made, generating an employment potential for 41,365 persons.

The reply further stated that after the notification of the J&K Industrial Policy 2021–30, land has been transferred across several districts in Jammu division for the establishment of new units. Kathua recorded the highest land transfer of 5,532 kanal and 7 marla, followed by Samba with 1,482 kanal, Jammu with 277 kanal, Reasi with 500 kanal and 13 marla, Poonch with 208 kanal and Kishtwar with 40 kanal.

It added that 758 industrial units have been established in Jammu division alone since the introduction of the Industrial Policy (2021–30).

Giving district-wise details, the government said Kathua leads with 233 units and 4,830 kanal land allotted, followed by Samba with 117 units and 775 kanal, Udhampur with 17 units and 36 kanal, while Jammu and Reasi have one unit each with 24 kanal and 1 kanal land allotted respectively—(KNO)
