Govt places 136 Senior Lecturers as in-charge Principals: Sakeena Itoo

JAMMU, APRIL 02: Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, Thursday informed that 136 Senior Lecturers were placed as in-charge Principals in the months of December-2025 and January-2026. Besides, the process of promotion of 114 ZEOs as in-charge Principals is in the final stage to fill all vacant posts of Principals in the School Education department (SED) across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister, as per an official statement, said this while replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Legislator Javid Hassan Baig in the Legislative Assembly.

She informed that with regard to subject specific teachers in Baramulla constituency, 27 Teachers/Masters/Lecturers have been deployed to these Higher Secondary Schools in addition to their own duties to teach the subject where they hold expertise.

The Minister further said that, out of 15 Higher Secondary Schools functioning in Baramulla constituency, 09 are without Principals and the process for filling up of the posts of Principals is being made through promotions.

She added that in December-2025 and January-2026, 136 Senior Lecturers were placed as I/c Principals while the process for promotion of 114 ZEOs as in-charge Principals is in the final stage, by virtue of which vacant posts will be filled up across J&K, including those of Baramulla Constituency.

She informed the House that, additionally, 594 vacancies for Lecturers across various subjects have been referred to the JKPSC with selection lists nearing completion and selections already received for some subjects.

The Minister said that the department is also making placement of PG Masters/Teachers as I/c Lecturers in various disciplines, adding that since January-2026, 48 PG Masters/Teachers have been elevated as I/c Lecturers in the discipline of Geography, 10 in Dogri and 87 in Political Science. She highlighted that the elevation in other disciplines is in pipeline and shall be finalized soon through which the vacancies of subject specific teachers/Lecturers shall be met out throughout Jammu and Kashmir including Baramulla Constituency.
