=== Ganderbal Encounter === LG’s magisterial probe decision ‘appropriate’: Omar

Srinagar, Apr 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday described Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s decision to order a magisterial probe into Ganderbal encounter as “appropriate.”

Talking to reporters here, CM Omar, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) supported the decision to order a magisterial inquiry into the encounter. “The truth should be established without delay,” he added.

He said a judicial probe takes considerable time and involves procedural challenges, including the availability of judges.

“I will not go for a judicial inquiry as it takes a lot of time. It is not easy to get a sitting or even a retired judge. There should be an inquiry without wasting time so that the truth is placed before the people,” he said.

Referring to the move by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to order a magisterial probe, the Chief Minister said the decision was “appropriate” and the inquiry should be allowed to proceed.

“I think the step taken by the LG is right. Let the inquiry do its job. The truth will come out,” he added.

On international developments, CM Omar expressed concern over the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and called for restraint.

“President of United States using abusive language does not suit his office. Such words cannot even be repeated here,” he said.

CM Omar said prolonged conflict would have wider consequences, adding, “We are all worried. The longer this continues, the more difficult it will become for everyone. We hope for an early ceasefire so that normalcy returns.” (KNO)
