Srinagar, Apr 13: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama & Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

According to a statement, a police party of Police Station Kakapora at a checkpoint established at Kandizal near NH-44 Underpass intercepted a vehicle (Innova) bearing registration number JK02DA-4166, with two persons on board. They have been identified as Liyaqat Ali son of Nazir Ahmad Akla resident of Nagrota Jammu, along with a passenger, Amanat Ali son of Gh Mustafa resident of Nagrota Jammu. During search, approximately 533 grams of poppy straw and 20 charas sticks weighing about 735 grams were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Meanwhile in Sopore, a police team of Police Post Warpora during naka checking at Dangarpora–Warpora Bypass Road, two suspicious individuals were intercepted. During search, charas-like substance and Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Umar Amin Banday son of Mohammad Amin Banday resident of Noorbagh Sopore and Basit Ahmad Shah son of Abdul Aziz Shah resident of Naseem Bagh Sopore.

Accordingly, cases under relevant provisions of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigations have been taken up.
