Srinagar, Apr 14: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous Tuesday said that women’s welfare remains the cornerstone of the welfare-oriented and development-driven agenda of the Omar Abdullah-led government.

She said the present elected government led by CM Omar Abdullah is firmly committed to empowering women through inclusive policies, targeted interventions, and sustained socio-economic initiatives aimed at ensuring dignity, security, and equal opportunities for women across Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was attended by Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri, District President Ganderbal Sheikh Gayas Ud Din, YNC Provincial President Kashmir Mir Mushtaq and Provincial Secretary Women’s Wing Ayesha Ji.

In her address, Firdous said the Omar Abdullah-led government has re-centred women’s emancipation and empowerment as a core governance priority after what she described as a “decade of governance deficit since 2014.”

She highlighted a series of targeted welfare measures, including free public transport for women, enhancement of marriage assistance under welfare schemes from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000, and strengthened social security support for widows, elderly women, and differently-abled women. She said these initiatives are aimed at providing meaningful relief to vulnerable sections and strengthening women’s socio-economic status.

Firdous further said that the government has placed women at the centre of its governance architecture, advancing reforms in mobility, social protection, and financial assistance with a clear focus on dignity, empowerment, and equitable participation in Jammu and Kashmir’s development trajectory.

Highlighting outreach efforts, Er. Sabiya Qadri said, “Our engagement is continuous and purpose-driven. Through door-to-door consultations and public meetings, we are listening to women and turning their voices into action.”

She further added, “The Women’s Wing is not just creating opportunities, it is nurturing a new generation of informed, responsive and transformative women leaders.
