KATHUA, APRIL 21: State Election Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir, Shantmanu, on Tuesday conducted an extensive tour of Kathua district to inspect the Special Summary Revision camps being organised for updation of Panchayat Electoral Rolls-2026.

District Panchayat Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Kathua, Rajesh Sharma and Secretary, State Election Commission J&K, Susheel Kumar also accompanied the State Election Commissioner during the visit.

The visit, as per an official statement, was aimed at reviewing the progress of the revision exercise on the ground and ensuring that the electoral rolls are comprehensive, accurate and inclusive.

The ongoing revision process, which commenced on March 27, 2026, provides for filing of claims and objections pertaining to new enrolments, deletions and transposition of voters across the Union Territory.

During the inspection of special camps at GDC Hiranagar and GMS Badala, the State Election Commissioner reviewed the functioning of special camps and assessed the pace of enrolment of newly eligible voters. He examined the status of forms received for inclusion, deletion, correction and transposition in the Panchayat electoral rolls.

Interacting with the Panchayat Secretaries and field functionaries, he emphasised the need for expeditious disposal of claims and objections and called for ensuring 100 percent registration of all eligible voters. He also sought identification of bottlenecks, if any, in the enrolment process and directed for their timely redressal.

The State Election Commissioner stressed the importance of transparency and accessibility in the revision process and directed the concerned officers to intensify awareness campaigns across all Panchayat Halqas so that every eligible citizen is facilitated to get enrolled without any hindrance.

DEPO (DC) Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, assured that the District Election Cell, along with field functionaries, will strive to make Kathua the best performing district in the ongoing revision exercise. He emphasised the crucial role of BLOs and Panchayat Secretaries in achieving this objective and informed that special camps are being organised in colleges and across all Panchayats, including on Saturdays and Sundays, to maximise outreach. He also urged all eligible but unregistered citizens to visit these camps and ensure their inclusion in the electoral rolls.

Among others, SDM Hiranagar Phulail Singh, ACR Kathua, ACD Kathua, Akhil Sadotra, Principal GLDM College Hiranagar, Pragya Khanna, DyDEO Nagesh Singh, Tehsildar Hiranagar Anup Kumar and other officers and officials were present on the occasion.
