Sopore, Apr 24: Six persons have been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Sopore for their alleged involvement in recent protest-related violence in the town, officials said on Friday.

An official said that all six detainees have been shifted to District Jail Bhadarwah, while more people connected to the violence are being identified and further action is likely.

He said the protests began after allegations of harassment surfaced against a lecturer, leading to demonstrations that later turned violent. “Incidents of stone-pelting and damage to both public and private property were reported, including harm to school buildings and vehicles,” he said.

He added that several arrests have already been made, while investigations are ongoing to trace others involved—(KNO)
