Anantnag, Apr 25: Police on Saturday launched coordinated narco cordon-and-search operations (CASOs) at nearly 20 identified locations across Anantnag district, targeting networks involved in drug trafficking.
Police sources said that multiple police teams carried out searches at the residences of alleged drug kingpins as part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics.
The operations were conducted with the assistance of police K9 units to detect concealed contraband, they said.
Police said twenty four cases werr registered in a single day against narco cultivators and narco peddlers. “Huge tracks of land cleared off illegal cultivation. Large consignments of contraband seized and peddlers arrested. Drive continues with more intensity.”
Anantnag Police said that they have detained 12 repeated drug peddlers under preventive provisions of law after obtaining necessary orders from the Executive Magistrates.
“Identified as habitual offenders involved in drug peddling and related activities, posed a serious threat to public health and safety. Despite prior actions, they continued to engage in illicit narcotics trade, prompting strict preventive measures.”
Accordingly, acting under the provisions of law and with due approval from the competent Executive Magistrates, all 12 accused have been detained and subsequently lodged in Subsidiary Jail Kehribal Anantnag, police said.
On Narco raids, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure said they have identified certain hotspots in the district and chronic drug peddlers who are operational in these areas.
“Today we launched a crackdown against these drug mafias by carrying out intensive searches of their premises and taking preventive measures under law. Services of Police Narco K9s were also utilised.”
During these exercises we also surveyed their movable and immovable properties to ascertain the funding of these properties so that they could be attached under law in case they are drug properties, he said—(KNO)
