KU organises free medical camp for respiratory diseases, mental health

Srinagar April 28: The University of Kashmir’s (KU) Health Centre in collaboration with J&K Association of Chest Physicians and Paras Health Srinagar organised a free medical camp for respiratory disease and mental health under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan at the Main Campus under the aegis of the Department of Students Welfare (DSW) KU.

The camp, as per a KU statement, aimed to promote health awareness and provide medical support services, including respiratory care, mental health counselling, and basic diagnostic facilities.
During her visit to the camp, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said, “Universities must actively promote preventive healthcare and mental well-being by creating awareness and ensuring access to timely medical guidance and counselling services for students and the community.”
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, said that collaborative health initiatives within educational institutions are important for encouraging awareness, early diagnosis, and informed lifestyle choices among young people.
Coordinator, Health Centre KU, Dr. Khalid Nazir, said that the camp was organised to encourage timely medical consultation and provide accessible healthcare services, particularly in areas related to mental well-being and respiratory-related health concerns.
Medical experts who participated in the camp included Dr. Rajinder Singh, Chest Specialist, former Dean GMC Jammu; Dr. Naveed Nazir, Professor and Head, Pulmonary Medicine CD Hospital GMC Srinagar; Dr. Naeem Firdous, Senior Consultant, Pulmonary Medicine, Paras Health; Dr. Arshid Ahmad Sofi, Senior Resident, Pulmonary Medicine, CD Hospital GMC Srinagar; and Madeeha Mukhtar, Clinical Psychologist, IMHANS.
The camp included facilities for Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), HbA1C, blood sugar testing, Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT), allergic rhinitis detection through Kribado Machine, and targeted mental health sessions.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the facilities and consultations provided during the camp. Huge number of students, scholars, employees, and members of the university community attended the camp and availed the healthcare services.
The camp was managed by Dr. Surayya Jan and Dr. Azhar Ahad, Medical Officers, Health Centre KU.
