PULWAMA, MAY 04: A series of awareness, counselling and enforcement activities were carried out Monday across Pulwama district as part of the ongoing 100-day campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Pulwama organised a range of counselling sessions and sports activities across Pulwama, Pampore and Tral. The programmes focused on mental health awareness and sensitising youth about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

Counselling sessions were conducted at various institutions including DMPS Pampore, Lalapora, HS Rathsuna, GMS Tral, Nagbal, HSS Hawl, HS Malangpora, HS Murran, BMS Goosu and UPS Chewakalan.

Experts and speakers on the occasion highlighted the long-term consequences of substance abuse on individuals and society, urging youth to engage in constructive and positive pursuits. Each programme began with oath-taking ceremonies, where participants pledged to work towards a physically fit, mentally sound and drug-free society.

Besides, as part of the campaign, the Drug Control Department has intensified enforcement measures across the district. During an inspection drive conducted Monday, the department ordered the closure of a retail medical shop at Rajpora Pulwama for violation of prescribed laws and regulations.

Officials stated that strict adherence to the provisions of the relevant acts is necessary adding that any non-compliance will attract action as per law.

Meanwhile, awareness programmes with active community participation were also conducted at Lalpora Tral, Booh Awantipora and Rajpora, focusing on sensitising the public, particularly youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of collective responsibility in making the Pulwama drug-free.
