Over 21,000 awareness progs held in district; lakhs participated: DC

Baramulla, May 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday praised the administration and police in Baramulla for their efforts in the ongoing anti-drug campaign, saying the authorities have done a “tremendous job” in implementing the 100 Day Nasha Mukht initiative across the district.

Addressing a mega Padyatra at Showket Ali Stadium, LG Sinha, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the administration, police and public together have played an important role in strengthening the anti-narcotics movement in the district.

“I want to congratulate them for this,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that he was satisfied with the efforts being made on the ground to curb the drug menace and create awareness among people, especially the youth.

Thousands of people from different walks of life participated in the rally, with residents gathering at the venue since morning to join the awareness march against drug abuse.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Fakhruddin Hamid briefed the Lieutenant Governor about the district’s ongoing anti-drug initiatives. He informed that since April, more than 21,000 mass awareness programmes have been conducted across Baramulla, witnessing participation from lakhs of people.

Officials said the administration has intensified enforcement measures against drug peddlers, including arrests, property seizures, demolitions and the de-registration of vehicles allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking. (KNO)
