NEET Cancellation Demands Accountability

NEET Cancellation Demands Accountability

The cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 is a devastating blow to over 20 lakh students who spent years preparing for this single examination. For many, it was not just a test but the culmination of sleepless nights, sacrificed holidays, and family hopes. Now, because of a paper leak allegedly originating in Churu, Rajasthan, and spreading through WhatsApp groups, these students must again sit for the exam. This is unacceptable. The anger is justified. The demand for a thorough probe is not a political slogan; it is a moral imperative. The National Testing Agency claims it used GPS-tracked vehicles and AI-assisted CCTV surveillance. Yet, the leak happened. Some questions in a PDF circulating among students before the exam matched the actual paper. How did this happen? Who is responsible? Students deserve answers, not just assurances. The Director General of NTA said no irregularities will be tolerated. But the fact remains that an irregularity occurred on a massive scale. The time for promises is over. The time for accountability has begun. The Central Bureau of Investigation has been handed the case. That is a welcome step. But the CBI must go beyond catching a few scapegoats. It must investigate whether any NTA official was involved. It must examine how the security protocol failed. It must recommend systemic changes so that this never repeats. The DG said whoever is involved, inside or outside, will be arrested. That must happen swiftly and visibly. In the meantime, the government must ensure that the re-conducted examination is flawless. Students cannot be made to suffer twice. The dates should be announced with sufficient notice. Centres should be increased to avoid travel hardships. The anger of students is legitimate. They have worked hard. Their families have invested money and emotion. They deserve a system that is fair, transparent, and secure. The NTA must be restructured if necessary. Stringent punishment must be given to those who try to buy or sell unfair advantages. And the government must communicate clearly, not in press releases, but in actions that restore faith. This is not just about an examination. It is about the future of medical education in India. It is about whether hard work still matters or only connections and cash do. The NEET cancellation is a wake-up call. Let us not waste it. Probe, punish, reform. And give the students of this country the examination they truly deserve.
