PD&SJ Ganderbal chairs 2nd  UTRC meeting 2026

GANDERBAL, MAY 13: Principal District & Sessions Judge (PD&SJ)/Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, Abdul Nasir, conducted the 2nd Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting Wednesday, with the objective of ensuring timely review and release of undertrial prisoners, thereby promoting their rights and access to justice.

The meeting, as per an official statement, was held in the office chamber of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, and was attended by  Jatin Kishore, District Magistrate, Ganderbal; Sudhanshu Dhama, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal; Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal; Shafat Ahmad, Public Prosecutor, Sessions Court, Ganderbal; Shahbaz Hussain, DySp, Central Jail, Srinagar; Khursheed Ahmad (I/C) Public Prosecutor, Addll. Sessions Court, Ganderbal; Showkat Ali (Inspector), In charge Subsidiary Jail Dignibal, Ganderbal, and Sajid Irfan, Deputy, LADC Ganderbal.

The UTRC convened to review the cases of nine prisoners shortlisted by the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal for consideration, among them one UTP has been previously recommended for release by UTRC. After thorough consideration, the committee decided to recommend six UTPS for release.

The meeting underscores the commitment of the District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, to uphold the principles of justice and ensure the rights of undertrial prisoners are safeguarded. The authority remains dedicated to promoting access to justice and protecting the rights of the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society.

The recommendations made by the UTRC will be forwarded to the competent authorities for necessary action, and it is expected that the release of the undertrial prisoners will bring relief to the prisoners and their families.

The District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and the rights of all individuals are protected.
