BUDGAM, May 14: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), a series of awareness and sensitization programmes were organised across various educational institutions, villages and public places in District Budgam to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse, tobacco consumption and narcotic substances.

At GHSSB Budgam, a Nukad Natak was organised wherein students delivered impactful performances highlighting the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of building a healthy and drug-free society. Similar awareness activities were also organised by Babul Qira under Cluster HSS BK Pora and at GMS Batpora Wathora, where students participated enthusiastically in street plays and awareness campaigns aimed at sensitising the public, especially youth, about the ill effects of substance abuse.

Meanwhile, under NMBA, Health Services Budgam conducted awareness and sensitization programmes at Brick Kiln Batpora and health facilities of Kharigund. During the programme, labourers and members of the general public were educated about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, particularly gutka and bidi smoking. Participants were sensitised about various tobacco-related diseases including oral cancer, lung ailments, heart diseases and respiratory disorders.

The awareness sessions focused on encouraging people to quit tobacco products and adopt healthier lifestyles.

In another  initiative, the Excise Team Budgam carried out a door-to-door awareness campaign at Village Chowdribagh, Panchayat Halqa Dreygam, Tehsil Khansahib. The team sensitised the local population regarding narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, their abuse, and the legal punishments and penalties associated with such offences.

The Excise Team also conducted a survey of nearby fields, farms and orchards to check for any illicit cultivation.

The programmes witnessed active participation from students, officials, health workers, and members of the community, reflecting a collective commitment towards making society free from drugs and substance abuse.
