Srinagar, May 20: A youth allegedly jumped into the river Jhelum from Budshah Bridge in Lal Chowk area here on Wednesday late evening, officials said.

They said the rescue operation has now been suspended for the night, while the identity of the person is yet to be confirmed.

Officials said that the individual is reportedly a young male, though there is no official confirmation regarding his identity so far.

An official said that soon after the incident, police teams rushed to the spot, while SDRF and River Police were pressed into service to launch a search and rescue operation in the river.

Despite sustained efforts through the evening, the individual could not be traced. The operation was later suspended due to darkness and adverse conditions.

“Search and rescue operation will resume with first light on Thursday morning,” the official said—(KNO)
