Elderly devotees lead spiritual fervour at Khanqah-e-Moula Urs

Srinagar, May 23: At the revered Khanqah-e-Moula on Saturday, age appeared to be just a number as 80-year-old Mohammed Salam sat in the front row among devotees, immersed in prayers and devotion to Hazrat Ameer Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA).

The historic shrine witnessed thousands of devotees offering prayers and seeking blessings in an atmosphere filled with spirituality, emotion and unity.

Devotees from different parts of Kashmir reached the shrine from early morning hours, participating in special prayers and religious gatherings while remembering the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA).

Amid the rush of worshippers, Mohammed Salam emerged as a symbol of unwavering faith and devotion. Despite being in his 80s, he sat quietly inside the shrine premises with prayer beads in his hands, deeply lost in devotion and remembrance of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA).

“I have been coming here every year for more than 40 years now. No matter how difficult the situation was, I never stayed away from this sacred place,” Salam told KNO in a soft voice, his eyes fixed on the prayer beads in his hands.

He said the Urs is not merely a ritual for him, but a lifelong spiritual connection. “Whenever I come here, I feel peace in my heart. I pray for my family, for Kashmir and for humanity. This place gives strength to the soul,” he said.

Meanwhile, the shrine reverberated with recitations, supplications and spiritual chants as devotees prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being. Religious scholars highlighted the teachings, spirituality and contributions of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA), whose influence continues to shape Kashmir’s religious and cultural identity.

People from all walks of life were seen sitting together in devotion, reflecting the spirit of brotherhood, unity and communal harmony associated with the annual Urs.

Notably, popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdan, Hazrat Ameer Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) was a renowned 14th-century Sufi saint, scholar and preacher who played a pivotal role in spreading Islam and introducing art, culture and craftsmanship in Kashmir—(KNO)
