Eid-ul-Azha! Markets wear festive look across Kashmir

Shoppers flock busy bazaars in Srinagar, major towns  

Srinagar, May 25: Markets across Kashmir, especially in Srinagar, wore a festive look on Monday as thousands of shoppers thronged major business hubs ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

According to the details available with the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the Valley witnessed hectic buying of clothes, footwear, bakery items, sacrificial animals and other items.

The famous Lal Chowk markets, Goni Khan, Maharaja Bazar, Residency Road, Jamia Market, Maisuma and Bohri Kadal remained abuzz with activity throughout the day as families, youth and children rushed to complete Eid shopping.

The historic markets around Jamia Masjid and Pather Masjid areas, also witnessed good footfall, with shoppers purchasing traditional wear, spices, bakery items, perfumes and prayer essentials.

Despite intermittent rainfall in the afternoon, markets continued to remain crowded, with the cool weather adding to the festive atmosphere as shopkeepers extended business hours amid growing customer rush.

Traders said business picked up during the past few days. Shops dealing in readymade garments, footwear, cosmetics, bakery products and more witnessed brisk sales.

Mehendi stalls set up in several markets attracted large numbers of women and young girls, especially during evening hours. Popular beauty parlours and salons also reported heavy bookings ahead of Eid celebrations.

Meanwhile, reports of good shopping rush were also received from other districts including Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Pulwama, Budgam, Shopian, Bandipora and Ganderbal, where markets remained busy till late evening.

In south Kashmir, markets in Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian witnessed significant rush at garment stores and bakeries, while in north Kashmir, Baramulla and Kupwara markets saw increased activity as people purchased Eid essentials.

Meanwhile, livestock markets across the Valley also witnessed a steady flow of buyers as people continued purchasing sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Azha.

Shopkeepers and traders expressed hope for better business in for the final day of tomorrow as the as Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNO)
