KUPWARA, MAY 25: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, market checking drive was conducted across Kupwara ahead of Eid al-Adha to ensure the availability of essential commodities at government approved rates and to curb hoarding, black marketing and profiteering.
The district administration has constituted special inspection teams to monitor market activities across various areas of the district.
The inspection teams comprising officers from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Revenue, Food Safety, Municipality, Legal Metrology, Sheep Husbandry and Police departments are conducting regular market inspections in their respective jurisdictions. The teams are checking the availability, quality and pricing of essential commodities to safeguard consumer interests ahead of the festive occasion.
A joint market checking team headed by the Assistant Director FCS&CA Kupwara on Monday inspected various markets of Kupwara town including Bypass Road Market, Jamia Market, Iqbal Market, Hajaj Market, Dar Gali, Old Chowk and Reigpora. During the inspection, several shopkeepers were penalised for violations and a fine amounting to Rs 2400 was realised from the erring traders. The team also directed the shopkeepers to strictly follow the government approved rates and maintain quality standards.
Similar market checking drives were also carried out in Handwara, Karnah, Sogam and other tehsil headquarters of the district.
The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring smooth supply of essential commodities and protecting consumers from overpricing and unfair trade practices during the Eid-ul-Adha period.
