Awareness programme on emotional well-being, mental health, counselling held at GDC Magam

BUDGAM, MAY 26: SANKALP–Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Mission Shakti Budgam, under the supervision of Bilal Ahmad Mir, District Social Welfare Officer, Budgam, organized an awareness programme on Emotional Well-Being, Mental Health and Counselling at Government Degree College (GDC) Magam to promote mental wellness, stress management and psychosocial support among students.

The programme, as per an official statement, commenced with an introductory session by  Afroza Ahad, District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti Budgam, who elaborated on the objectives and components of Mission Shakti. She highlighted its two major components—Sambal and Samarthya—which focus on the safety, security, empowerment and rehabilitation of women. Afroza Ahad also sensitized the participants about various women-centric schemes and services being implemented under Mission Shakti, including One Stop Centre, Women Helpline 181, Shakti Sadan, SANKALP – Hub for Empowerment of Women, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Addressing the gathering, Mutina Rashid, Social Worker, Mental Health Unit, District Hospital Budgam, delivered an insightful session on emotional well-being and stress management. She emphasized the importance of maintaining emotional balance, adopting healthy coping strategies and seeking timely support during periods of stress and emotional distress.

The technical session on mental health, counselling and stress management was conducted by Aijaz-ul-Asad, who highlighted the importance of mental health awareness among youth. He discussed common mental health concerns, the role of counselling in overcoming psychological challenges and the need to break the stigma associated with seeking professional help. He also shared practical techniques for managing stress and promoting overall psychological well-being.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who actively interacted with the resource persons and sought guidance on various aspects of mental health and emotional resilience.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards promoting mental health awareness, emotional well-being and access to support services among students and the wider community.
