Hajj pilgrims’ concerns to be thoroughly examined: Itoo

Pulwama, May 30: Cabinet Minister Sakeena Itoo on Saturday assured that concerns of Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir will be thoroughly examined.

The minister also launched a sharp attack on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), blaming it for the political developments that unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.

Speaking to reporters after the Awami Darbar at Circuit House Pulwama in south Kashmir, Itoo said the government is aware of the issues being faced by some pilgrims and their relatives. “Whatever concerns have been brought to our notice regarding Hajj pilgrims will be carefully looked into. We understand the sentiments attached to the pilgrimage, and every issue will be examined in detail,” she assured.

Launching a sharp attack on the PDP, the minister blamed the party for the August 5, 2019 developments. “What happened in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, is because of the PDP. Driven by their lust for power, they allowed the BJP to rule here. As a consequence, the people of Jammu and Kashmir lost their identity, land rights, job protections and many other safeguards,” Itoo alleged.

She further accused the PDP of engaging in criticism for political gains while ignoring the role it played in shaping the present situation. “They are still thirsty for the chair and are not willing to acknowledge the work this government has done during the last eighteen months despite operating with limited powers,” she said.

Earlier, scores of people from Pulwama and Shopian districts gathered at the Awami Darbar to highlight issues concerning healthcare, education, road connectivity, drinking water supply, power infrastructure, employment opportunities and other developmental needs.

The minister was accompanied by MLA Pampore Hasnain Masoodi, MLA Zainapora Shaukat Hussain Ganie, senior officials from various departments, and National Conference leaders.

Itoo assured participants that the Omar Abdullah-led government remains committed to addressing people’s concerns. “Every genuine issue raised by the public will be taken up with the concerned departments, and efforts will be made to ensure their timely resolution,” she said.

Highlighting the achievements of the present administration, the minister said the government has focused on addressing public issues, strengthening essential services and accelerating development works across the Union Territory. “Our government will continue to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people. Despite limitations, we will continue to serve the people with dedication and sincerity,” she added. (KNO)
