SHOPIAN, JUNE 03: In a vibrant display of fitness, youth engagement and social commitment, the Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) Shopian Wednesday organized a grand Cyclothon to commemorate World Bicycle Day 2026 under the banner of the Fit India Movement and 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
The event, as per an official statement, was conducted under the overall supervision of PEM, Raja Basharat Wachkoo and was flagged off by Deputy Superintendent of Police,Talat Mehmood from New Bus Stand Batpora.
The Cyclothon commenced from Batpora and culminated at District Police Lines Shopian. More than 121 cyclists, including youth and students from various educational institutions, participated enthusiastically in the rally, spreading the message of physical fitness, healthy living, environmental sustainability and a drug-free society.
A pledge ceremony was also organized, wherein participants assured for making Shopian free from the menace of drug abuse.
The event highlighted the importance of cycling as an eco-friendly and healthy mode of transportation while encouraging citizens to adopt active lifestyles. The overwhelming participation reflected the growing awareness among youth regarding health, fitness and social responsibility.
DYSSO Shopian expressed gratitude to the Police & Health Departments, participating institutions and all cyclists for their invaluable support in making the event a grand success.
