JAMMU, JUNE 13: Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Syed Saturday visited progressive farmers’ fields in Zone RS Pura to assess the cultivation of dragon fruit and interact with growers. He was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu R Kotwal and Horticulture Development Officer Dheeraj Sharma.
During the visit, the Director, as per an official statement, inspected the dragon fruit orchard of Talib Hussain at Village Ganday, Miran Sahib and the orchard of Agnider Bakshi at Mohanpur Talar, Arnia, reviewing the growth, management practices and overall progress of both orchards.
Director Gul Syed appreciated the efforts of the farmers in adopting high-value horticultural crops such as dragon fruit and emphasised the importance of crop diversification for enhancing farm income. He encouraged other farmers to explore innovative horticulture ventures and assured them of the department’s full support through technical guidance and various horticulture development schemes.
The Director also discussed issues related to orchard management, irrigation, plant nutrition and marketing, advising farmers to follow scientific cultivation practices to achieve better productivity and quality produce. The visiting officers expressed satisfaction over the successful cultivation of dragon fruit in the area and highlighted its potential as a profitable crop for the farming community of the Jammu region.
