BANDIPORA, JUNE 13: As part of the ongoing activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), several awareness programmes against substance abuse were organised across Government Degree Colleges in Bandipora district on Saturday to sensitise students about the harmful effects of drug addiction and to promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
At Government Degree College Sumbal, a pledge ceremony against substance abuse was conducted under the presence of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shabeena Iqbal Shawl. The event witnessed the participation of students and faculty members, who collectively took a solemn pledge to refrain from substance use and to spread awareness about the importance of a healthy and drug-free society.
Meanwhile, under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Youth Club of the Red Ribbon Committee of HKM Degree College Bandipora organised a “Pledge Against Substance Abuse” under the convenership of Dr. Mehrajuddin Talie. The programme concluded with a strong message highlighting the collective responsibility of youth in combating the menace of drug abuse and promoting a healthy and productive lifestyle.
In another programme, the NSS Units of HKM Degree College Bandipora, in collaboration with the Department of Education, organised an interactive session on the causes, consequences and remedial measures of drug abuse. The programme aimed at creating awareness among students regarding the growing menace of drug addiction and its adverse impact on individuals, families and society.
On the occasion, Head of the Department of Education, Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Parry, delivered an insightful lecture and elaborated on the major causes of substance abuse, its harmful consequences and the preventive as well as remedial measures required to combat the social evil.
Further, the Department of Political Science, in collaboration with the NCORD Cell of HKM Degree College Bandipora, organised a counselling session on the theme “Say Yes to Life and No to Drugs.” The session was aimed at sensitising students about the dangers of drug abuse and encouraging them to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
During the session, Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Convener of the NCORD Cell, delivered an informative lecture highlighting the causes and harmful effects of substance abuse. He stressed the importance of self-discipline, positive thinking and community support in preventing drug addiction among youth.
The programmes collectively reinforced the message of creating a drug-free society through awareness, counselling and active youth participation.
