Srinagar, Jun 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the cabinet will soon approve the response to the clarifications sought by the Central Government on the reservation proposal.

Talking to reporters, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the CM said the J&K Government has fulfilled its responsibility regarding reservation.

“We have done what we were required to do .The cabinet sub-committee sat and prepared the report. The cabinet approved the report. Like other cabinet decisions, the proposal was sent to the LG, who formally referred it to New Delhi,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that the Centre had sought certain clarifications on the proposal.

“The proposal was returned. The Department has prepared responses to all clarifications. The response has been ready for the past few days. The cabinet will approve it since it was a cabinet decision. It is now a matter of a few days,” he said.

In its election manifesto, the National Conference had promised to rationalize reservation in Jammu and Kashmir.

A three-member cabinet sub-committee headed by Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Masood Ittoo was set up to look into grievances regarding reservation.

In its report, the CSC recommended reducing the quota for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) by seven percent and for Residents of Backward Areas (RBA) by three percent, thereby enhancing reservation for the Open Merit category by 10 percent.

On December 04, 2025, the Cabinet approved the CSC recommendations and sent the proposal to LG for approval. (KNO)
