Srinagar, Jul 07: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Tuesday said that more than one lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine since July 3, when the annual pilgrimage commenced.

Talking to reporters, Garg said the Amarnath Yatra has witnessed a huge influx of pilgrims during the first five days.

He said a huge number of devotees who had not registered online turned up during the initial days of the Yatra, creating logistical challenges for the administration. “We appeal to all pilgrims to register themselves online before undertaking the Yatra,” he said.

The Divisional Commissioner said the situation has now been streamlined with the augmentation of transit accommodation facilities on the directions of the Lieutenant Governor. He added that the on-the-spot registration facility has also been expanded to ensure that pilgrims do not face any inconvenience.

“More than one lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine, and the darshan process is continuing smoothly,” Garg said.

He said senior officers have been deployed at both the Nunwan and Baltal Base Camps, while regular reviews are being conducted by the Amarnath Shrine Board and the civil administration to ensure all necessary facilities are extended to pilgrims and that the Yatra continues smoothly—(KNO)
