18 kilograms of single-use plastic seized, penalty of Rs 13,000 imposed on 4 shopkeepers for violations

BANDIPORA, JULY 13: Continuing its sustained efforts to preserve the fragile ecology of Gurez Valley, the District Administration Bandipora on Monday intensified enforcement against the use of banned single-use plastic (SUP) while conducting extensive cleanliness drives across Dawar Market and nearby tourist locations.

An enforcement drive, as per an official statement, was carried out at Dawar Market by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad; Assistant Commissioner Panchayats (ACP) Bandipora, Ajaz Ahmad Lone; and Block Development Officer (BDO) Gurez, Lateef Ahmad Mantoo, along with a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) Gurez.

During the drive, around 18 kilograms of single-use plastic was seized, while a penalty of Rs 13,000 was imposed on four shopkeepers found violating the ban on single-use plastic.

A cleanliness drive was also conducted in the Main Market, Dawar, under the supervision of the SDM Gurez and ACP Bandipora. Officials, field staff and sanitation workers participated in the campaign to collect waste and enhance public cleanliness.

Another cleanliness drive was undertaken at the Badi Dassi camping site under the supervision of BDO Gurez, Lateef Ahmad Mantoo, during which a substantial quantity of waste was collected and scientifically disposed of to restore the site’s cleanliness.

The District Administration reiterated that strict enforcement against banned single-use plastic will continue alongside regular sanitation drives to safeguard the pristine environment of Gurez Valley.

The Administration appealed to citizens, traders and visitors to cooperate by avoiding the use of single-use plastic and maintaining cleanliness at all public places and tourist destinations.
