Budgam, Jul 16: J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Thursday said the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar would not lead to the return of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters at Makhama in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Andrabi said that in a democracy everyone has the right to express their views and no one had stopped the National Conference from holding its protest.

“As far as the restoration of statehood is concerned, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have already stated in Parliament that Jammu and Kashmir will be granted statehood at the appropriate time. The NC’s protest will not bring about its restoration,” she said.

Her remarks come ahead of the National Conference’s planned protest in New Delhi on July 20, demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
