‘Amarnath Yatra decisions to follow IMD advisories, safety of pilgrims top priority’
Kulgam, Jul 21: The Kashmir administration on Tuesday placed all departments on high alert and activated round-the-clock control rooms across the Valley in view of the adverse weather forecast, with Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir Anshul Garg saying the entire administrative machinery has been mobilised to respond to any emergency.
Talking to reporters in Kulgam, Garg, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said district administrations, disaster management authorities, police, emergency services and other line departments have been directed to maintain close coordination and remain fully prepared to deal with any weather-related situation.
“All departments have been put on high alert and asked to remain prepared. We have activated 24×7 control rooms across Kashmir to monitor the situation and ensure a prompt response wherever required,” he said.
Garg said field officers have been instructed to keep constant watch on vulnerable areas and take timely measures to minimise any loss of life or property.
On the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the Divisional Commissioner said all decisions regarding the movement of pilgrims and conduct of the pilgrimage would be taken strictly in accordance with weather advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“The safety and well-being of pilgrims remains our highest priority. Every decision regarding the Yatra will be based on the prevailing weather conditions and official IMD forecasts,” he said.
Appealing to residents and pilgrims to follow only official advisories, the Div Com urged people not to pay heed to rumours, saying the administration is continuously monitoring the weather situation and will issue timely updates whenever required. (KNO)
