DC Budgam reviews flood preparedness at Jhelum embankment at Zonipora

Directs round-the-clock monitoring

Budgam, Jul 22: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan on Wednesday visited the Jhelum embankment at Zonipora, Rakh Shalina, to review flood preparedness and precautionary measures following incessant rainfall.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the preparedness of the concerned departments and directed officers to remain on high alert, ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the embankment, and maintain close coordination for timely response to any eventuality. He stressed the importance of taking all necessary preventive measures to safeguard lives and property and instructed the concerned departments to remain fully equipped with men, machinery and other essential resources.

The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with local residents and assured them that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure public safety. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the administration.

The DC further directed the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted irrigation facilities for farmers and advised people not to place irrigation pipes beneath the embankment, as it could weaken its structural stability.

He instructed officers to take stringent action against offenders and ensure strengthening of embankments.

Among others, Additional District Development Commissioner Budgam, Vivek Agarwal; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Taufeeq Ahmad Gazi; Chief Planning Officer; Superintending Engineers; Executive Engineers of various engineering departments; the concerned Tehsildar; and other district officers accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the visit.
