Takes on-ground assessment of rainfall scenario

KULGAM, JULY 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, Wednesday visited Qaimoh and Kudwani areas to take an on-ground assessment of the prevailing rainfall scenario and review the preparedness of the flood management authorities.

During the visit, the DC, as per an official statement, inspected vulnerable locations, including  flood-prone low lying areas, river banks and reviewed precautionary measures being taken by the concerned departments.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the local residents and also informed that men and machinery have been deployed across the vulnerable locations to keep check on water levels.

The DC also directed the concerned departments to supervise the working of beat teams deployed to keep round the clock vigil over the flood gauge levels and extend assistance to vulnerable populations.

The DC appealed to the public to avoid venturing near rivers, streams and other water bodies during the ongoing spell of rainfall and to strictly follow advisories issued by the administration.

He further directed the concerned officers to ensure the timely shifting of nomadic families from vulnerable locations to safer rescue centers and to remain prepared for any emergency response.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Tehsildar Qaimoh, Executive Engineers of  Irrigation & Flood Control Departments, and officers of other concerned departments, who briefed him about the preparedness measures and the ground situation.
