JKWRRA holds meeting following reconstitution, approves Bore-well cases

SRINAGAR, JULY 22: Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority (JKWRRA) held its meeting after reconstitution and cleared various Bore-well cases requiring approval of Authority.

Chairperson, JKWRRA, Suresh Kumar Gupta, as per an official statement, chaired the meeting which was attended by Rajesh Sharma and Manoj Gupta Members of JKWRRA besides Ashwani Sharma, Secretary and other senior officers of the Authority.

Secretary of the Authority along with Vaneet Vaid, Superintending Engineer made Power Point Presentation highlighting various aspects of working of JKWRRA and presented the agenda items one by one. Various Hydro-Power Project cases were also presented before the Authority for its recommendations for approval of the Government.

The Chairperson advised to ensure the participation of user agencies/organisations so that observations are cleared on spot for expeditious clearance of important projects. The Bore-well projects, which were complete in all respects, were approved by the Authority in the meeting.

JKWRRA is a statutory Authority established under the J&K Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act 2010, enacted with the objective of consolidating the law relating to the Regulation, Management and Sustainable use of water resources in Jammu and Kashmir. The Authority consists of a Chairperson and not more than three Members. The Authority is mandated with respect to issuance of regulations for sustainable use of water resources.

Members and Officers of the Authority participating in the meeting suggested various measures for improving the working of Authority and making it vibrant.

The Chairperson listened to the suggestions and advised the participant to draft the proposals accordingly for examination and consideration of the Authority.

The Chairperson directed that in case of no or inadequate response to the observations raised by the Authority with reference to any particular project, the responsible officer of the user agency/organisation may be asked to appear before Authority.

He also advised for use of various modes for awareness to the people about mandatory clearances regarding use of water, judicious use of water, rain water harvesting and water conservation as such. The meeting laid down the roadmap for further deliberations and streamlining the working of JKWRRA.
